153 spacious residential units featuring new façades and roofs with good insulating properties as well as energy-saving systems have been built as part of a renovation project in Kerkrade in Holland. The southern aspect is also equipped with solar panels.

The windows were subject to particular requirements in terms of heat insulation. GEALAN's partner Transcarbo met the brief with vinyl windows to the passive house standard with triple glazing. The windows were supplied fully pre-assembled and fitted in the existing wood frame construction with a quick turnaround time. The renovation resulted in a significant reduction in energy and power costs.

The development objective for this system with rebate gaskets and an installation depth of 74 mm was to create a cost-effective profile with optimum use of materials, for easier and more efficient fabrication by window manufacturers.

Park living

In the Hamburg-Hohenfelde park quarter, 32 attractive cooperative flats have been built as three buildings around a park in the last two years in two construction phases. In the complex, 26 apartments have been made accessible according to DIN 18040 part 2, the other 6 apartments are accessible according to DIN 18040 part 2 and are also designed for unrestricted wheelchair use. The housing area is built around a public park and the Alster tributary is just a few minutes away. As a conventional masonry construction, the building in the busy Muehlendamm area has been given a facade made from closed facing and fully glazed loggia which made it possible to have lounges and bedrooms on the louder side of the building.

Architects Lieb + Lieb based in Freudenstadt designed a total of 112 premium rental apartments on the A 81 between Böblingen and Sindelfingen on behalf of the Municipal Supply Association of Baden-Württemberg (KVBW).

New research and office building

In 2012, the Fraunhofer Institute for Wind Energy and Energy System Technology in Bremerhaven opened a new engineering building for testing rotor blades. The offices in the upper storeys are arranged in a wing-shaped layout and enjoy an impressive view of the North Sea.
