BALANCE by GEALAN – CO₂-optimised window profiles with bio-attributed PVC

GEALAN-BALANCE-Banner.jpg

GEALAN continues to optimise its PVC profiles in terms of sustainability and resource conservation: with the new BALANCE variants, bio-attributed PVC has recently been used in the profile shell. This material made from renewable biomass enables additional CO₂ savings.

Modern PVC windows make a contribution to climate protection: they are thermally insulating and therefore energy-saving, durable and recyclable. The raw materials from which PVC window profiles are produced are also becoming more sustainable: GEALAN window profiles use recyclate in the profile core as standard. More than 30% of the material used in profile production is already recycled – the proportion is constantly increasing.

GEALAN is now taking the next step in terms of CO2 optimisation of its window and door profiles: with the BALANCE profile variants , bio-attributed PVC is now being used in the profile envelope. Instead of fossil oil, it is also produced from renewable biomass that does not compete with food production.

BALANCE window profiles from GEALAN combine the advantages: increasing proportions of recycled material in the profile core, bio-attributed PVC in the profile shell, enable CO2-optimised PVC profiles for windows and doors. This means that BALANCE profiles conserve resources and reduce emissions – with identical performance values and quality.

What is bio-attributed PVC?

PVC is produced from ethylene. This is conventionally obtained from fossil crude oil by thermal splitting. Innovative processes can now be used to produce renewable ethylene from second-generation biomass: These are plant residues or by-products that do not compete with the production of food – for example, used cooking oil.

The ethylene is synthesized into vinyl chloride with the addition of chlorine (obtained from rock salt or sea salt) and polymerized to polyvinyl chloride (PVC). The entire process is carried out using green electricity.

According to the certified supplier, this saves around 90% CO2 compared to conventionally produced PVC, while the technical properties of the material remain unchanged.

This bio-attributed PVC is ISCC PLUS-certified and mass-balanced – and is used in profile production just like conventional virgin PVC.

What does mass balancing mean?

Similar to green electricity, bio-attributed PVC is also mass-balanced: the feed-in into production is not physically separated, but accounting. This means that no separate product is created - the quality remains unaffected, the performance values identical. An ISCC PLUS certificate also confirms the entry of bio-attributed raw materials as well as resource-saving processes.

BALANCE window profiles make an active and proven contribution to resource conservation and CO2 optimisation – by supporting the bio-attributed PVC input.

Benefits of BALANCE: Sustainability and differentiation

Window manufacturers and dealers support a holistically sustainable approach with the processing and sale of emission-reduced BALANCE window profiles:

  • They can market CO2-optimized products, thus differentiating themselves from the competition and sustainably asserting themselves in the market
  • You reduce your company's CO2 footprint
  • They promote climate protection and actively contribute to the European goal of CO2 neutrality

With a BALANCE variant, private customers purchase PVC windows with the same qualitative performance values, but demonstrably more resource-efficient: A BALANCE PVC window has the usual performance values in terms of stability, durability and thermal insulation – but at the same time contributes to energy savings. With the purchase of CO2-optimised BALANCE PVC-U windows, home builders and renovators not only actively support climate protection, but also make their own homes more sustainable.

How are BALANCE window profiles available?

Almost all profiles from all GEALAN systems are now available in the BALANCE order variant. Important: With the order, GEALAN partners do not purchase a separate product, but receive a certificate confirming the ISCC Plus-certified mass-balanced use of bio-attributed PVC.

The BALANCE profiles can be ordered in the GEALAN eShop. There they can be selected as an order variant.

BALANCE window profiles are already in use at the first pilot customers and in the first pilot projects. The order for ISCC PLUS-certified window profiles with bio-attributed PVC is now available to all GEALAN customers as standard.
